Welcome and Weekly Updates
Hello Ray Families! The first day of class is Tuesday, September 8 at 8:45 AM. Please have your student come to class at 8:45 by clicking the link that I emailed them tonight. If you have any trouble getting connected, please reach out to me through email or Remind. I will be checking both and will do my best to help everyone get connected. Please help each other get connected if you can. Let's have each other's backs and make sure we can all be here to learn together! Reminder: Attendance will be taken daily, beginning tomorrow. Students will be considered absent if they do not attend remote learning classes on time. I know that remote learning can be challenging at times, but we are here to support each other through our questions, concerns, and frustrations. If we can work together with patience, flexibility, and forgiveness, we can accomplish a lot this year! This week, we will be learning how to use the different websites and software that will help us with remote learning. In math, we will talk about math mindsets, practice using Desmos, and get connected to apps like Prodigy and Khan Academy. In Reading & Writing, we will experience some Read-Think-Feel Aloud stories, try our first Quick Write activity, and connect to the Chicago Public Library website to check out ebooks. In Social Studies, we will start our Circle practice, discuss the importance of Labor Day, and think about how to conduct research and ask good questions. In Science, we will talk more about creating good questions and how to collect information as evidence. Throughout this week and next, we will talk about our personal identities and how they impact our learning and relationships. We will work to build classroom community by playing games and being supportive classmates in Circles. We will create and use community norms and reminders for respectful, responsible, and safe remote learning.
