Welcome and Weekly Updates
Hello Ray Families! This week we will continue talking about our classroom routines and procedures. Last week I was able to learn everyone's level of computer skills, so now I have a better idea for how to make remote learning as fun and easy as I can. We definitely need to keep practicing and there is much to learn as well, but I bet by the end of this week we will become much faster with and smarter about computers. In Social Studies, we will begin using Circles as part of our classroom routines for discussion. If you have some time, please watch this video about how and why I use Circles in my classroom. In Math, we will begin using Prodigy and students will create goals for their Prodigy progress. If you can, please check out this information about setting goals with Prodigy. In Science, we will begin using the Question Formulation Technique to begin conducting investigations and compiling research. We will use the QFT in both Science and Social Studies this year. In Reading and Writing, students will begin exploring their identities as readers and writers. We will begin using our virtual reading and writing notebooks, if we can learn the technical skills necessary in our Academic Enrichment class. We will have our PE teacher, Miss Jerris, as a special guest on Monday morning to help explain how Specials classes will work during remote learning. On Wednesday, we will have a Town Hall Meeting with Principal Neely. Daily Schedule Students should be in classes by 8:45. I will report attendance to their mainstream teachers, who will report attendance through Aspen by 9:00 am. If students are having trouble with technology which will make them late, please email me immediately. Students have lunch from 12:40-1:10. After lunch, they have Specials class (one day a week) and then independent work time until the end of the school day at 3:15. All teachers are assigning independent work for students to complete after lunch every day. Please keep an eye on your student's Google Classrooms to check for daily assignments!
