Welcome and Weekly Updates
Hello Ray Families! Thank you for your hard work over the past three weeks. Please keep communicating with me, as IEP dates are quickly approaching. I will begin assessing students this week, and I am starting to collect information for their transition plans. We must begin thinking about and talking about HIGH SCHOOL! Please send me any and all high school-related questions you may have! This Week In Class In social studies, students will examine and assess the importance of jobs based on their personal opinions and viewpoints, students will discuss and write about their views and society’s views towards various jobs, and explore biases, and students will recognize the value of jobs that they may not have previously thought important. We will look at child labor practices in America and try to understand how those practices have come to change and why. In math, we are learning about transformations: the math of movement. By the end of this week, students will know the difference between translations, rotations, and reflections. This week, students will focus on seeing these movements in the world and using their best math language to describe movement precisely. In Reading & Writing, we will continue learning about Theme: the message or lesson of a story. This week, students will collaboratively discuss possible themes of fables and use the highlight feature of CommonLit to provide evidence from the text to support their claims. We will read and watch adaptations of fables and discuss possible themes. In Science, we are taking a sidestep to dive deeper into the process of scientific inquiry: the process of questioning and observing. We will talk about how scientists learn and how we can become better scientists by asking good questions, testing our ideas, and making observations. In Academic Enrichment, we will begin Transition assessments to gather information about high school and post-high school plans for our students. Daily Schedule Students should be in classes by 8:45. I will report attendance to their mainstream teachers, who will report attendance through Aspen by 9:00 am. If students are having trouble with technology which will make them late, please email me immediately. Students have lunch from 12:40-1:10. After lunch, they have Specials class (one day a week) and then independent work time until the end of the school day at 3:15. All teachers are assigning independent work for students to complete after lunch every day. Please keep an eye on your student's Google Classrooms to check for daily assignments!
